Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery (or blepharoplasty) is the preferred treatment for removing bags under the eyes or drooping eyelids, conditions that can add years to your appearance and even impair your vision. Although eyelid surgery can make you look — and feel — years younger, it is not a substitute for plastic surgery, and will not eliminate wrinkles, crow’s-feet or dark circles under the eyes.

Eyelid surgery may be performed under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Dr. LoVerme will make tiny incisions along the natural lines of your eyelids, through which excess fat, skin and muscle are removed. The incisions are closed with fine sutures, which will leave scars that are practically invisible.

Most patients are back to their normal routines within a few weeks, although complete recovery may take several months. Swelling, bruising, and some discomfort are part of the recovery process, and usually can be alleviated with cold compresses and appropriate medication.
